What Identifies You?
Day 6: January 11, 2024
As the sun streams through the large picture windows of the cafe on this cold winter day, I sit here drinking my medium chai tea latte nonfat milk. Sweet with the hints of blended spices that make this chai tea latte so palatable, as the latte touches my lips. Lunchtime at the cafe, about twenty or so people fill the space, electronic devices charging at about half of the tables, there are mostly laptops. The two people sitting next to me happen to be wearing baseball caps. One of them, a slender pail skinned lady with long straight black hair. Sitting beside her, I get a view of her profile. Her face was lined with a thin jaw, narrow cheek bones down to her chin. Her right eye lids fluttered as she stared into the screens. Her nose was straight and petite that fit her face so. She had freshly manicured nails French tips. Her style was slick and clean. She was dressed all in black with black leggings, black zipped sweat jacket, and black Nike sneakers, as she sipped her medium iced caramel macchiato through a straw. Next to her lap top to her left was her cell phone, which she toggled back and forth from her laptop to her mobile doing whatever she did by tapping away on the electronics.
Just like the lady in the cafe today, she is identifiable. Click. A mental image in my mind was captured of this specific individual. There is only one you in this world. We are all unique with special features and qualities that define us.
I am divorced. And now I am dancing through life single day by day. As I am content with who I am now possibilities are endless. Living with myself and being confident in my own skin. I’ve taken on the dating scene at middle age.
Times have changed. When I was younger we used to go out socially and meet people to find friends or dates for all that matters. Now, most things are done online. Everyone has their devices in hand.
The profile that fits the identity of the being desired by the search as one wonders to themselves is this the one? Swipe right swipe left heart the one you are interested in.Is that the algorithm of love?Your heart your future connection to whatever it is that you are looking for. How can your significant other be determined by scrolling online dating sites going through photos interests and words that simply tell who that person is. The hopes and dreams of individuals in their search for other beings while questioning is this person for me?
I’m looking for a connection and to meet people. That someone to take a walk with who loves to listen to music watch movies and explore.
My interests are photography, writing, dancing, theater, television, music, cafe hopping...
Dating now is like applying for a job. You submit a completed profile online. People are searching for their life partner, their true love, their sole mate, a friend, something casual, however you may want to label it.
People notice you. How are you going to sell yourself for the person who is seeking to like you. How will you match? Your qualities, your skills, your hobbies, interests, your words that will capture others attention to yourself, your looks…Are you the package deal for the one?
No thank you. I want a real person. I don’t want to live my love life on my phone. In person connection please. I want to identify with the person to see if we are compatible. Don’t get me wrong, I’m guilty of text ranting. But what have we come to? Really I think we are social distancing from one another. It’s ok to agree to disagree.
Let’s get together. Let’s have those mixers and mingle. Let’s enjoy each others company. Converse with one another. Meet and greet. Let’s go to the cafe.
What will your profile say? How will you describe yourself? What identifies you?
