What Is Your Prediction?
Day 5: January 10, 2024
Today is a cloudy cold winter morning. The air is blustery. I’m craving a medium hot vanilla latte with nonfat milk. What we need and do to function every day is key.The door to the cafe swings open. Customers make a line that begins at the register. One behind another. There are about five people waiting ahead of me.
“How can I help you?,” asked the barista.“Can I get a small hot caramel macchiato please?,” asked the customer at the register. The barista repeated the customer’s order.“How will you pay?,” the barista asked.“Credit card,” said the customer. The customer scanned his card and paid for the macchiato. “Thank you.”“Next,” said the barista. The person that followed in line walked up to the counter looked up at the menu for a while.“Do you need some time or are you ready to order? How are you paying?,” the server asked the customer. The customer made her order. “I’ll take a medium americano black please. Can you scan my phone please to pay?”“Thank you for your order,” said the barista.
The ice rattles in the shaker, the barista shakes. The steam shoots up from the steamer. The coffee grinds in the grinder. Bagged snacks get passed one by one to people waiting at the opposite end of the coffee bar for their orders.
Two men in long brown trench coats converse in an undetectable language waiting for their order at the coffee bar pick up area. The dialect is quick. I still can not figure out their language. Minutes flew by, as the men chatted. “Your order is ready...”
A woman and a toddler hand in hand walked up to the coffee bar behind the two men. The child wore a light blue puffer jacket and the lady wore a black puffer jacket. Their attire was appropriate for the day. Rain and wind to come as per the weather forecast. Gale force winds with 60 mile per hour gusts are expected. Batten down the hatchets. The weather channels predict a strong storm headed for the area. Take care of yourself. The elements effect you. Wintertime, the darkest days of the year. The mattress just feels so good you don’t want to get up. Oh the cold winter days. The dark mornings upon wake up take time for your body to adjust to the day. Groggy cranky winter blues also may be the culprit. Who am I to say? Your body is just waking. Give yourself time and get on with the day.
Sometimes I have a solid sleep. Sometimes my sleeps are restless. Your sleep affects you throughout the day. What is your prediction on how I will continue to sleep? I’m going to strive to have a good night sleep for now on.
I got into a self care routine. Having a self care routine in the evening allows me to wind down for the day. Whatever I need to make myself relax whether it is taking a shower, brushing my hair, brushing my teeth, changing into sleepwear, reading a book, watching tv, listening to music… Just like a morning routine that helps me for the day, an evening routine is helpful too for a good night sleep.
The weather has been temperamental. The forecast calls for a major storm. I stepped outside of the cafe in my black fleece sweatshirt black thermal pants and white worn out sneakers. I was appropriately dressed. I looked up and caught a glimpse of the snow drifting from the sky. Let it snow.
What is your prediction? Do you have clothes that will protect you from the elements? Do you have the tools to survive? Will you sleep well? All we need are the essentials. Start with what you need. Budget your finances. Focus on the priorities. Get in a routine. Do. And move on…
Take care
